NB: We have recently made some updates to the facilitation dashboard to make it easier to use for a wider variety of contexts. The principal change is to the Top Comments section, which has now become a feed of all comments from that week. If you would like to see a similar view to the previous Top Comments, you can filter by Most Liked.
The facilitation dashboard is intended to provide an overview of the commenting activity in a given run of your course.
Accessing the dashboard
To access the dashboard, you will need to be an Organisation Admin, Author or Facilitator in Course Creator.
Anyone with these permissions will see the following tab at run level in Course Creator:
From here select Facilitation Dashboard.
You can also add /facilitation to your course's URL.
Using the dashboard
The dashboard displays data for the course week indicated at the top right (A), where you can change to another week by using the arrows.
Note that these are course weeks and not calendar weeks.
Navigating the graph
The graph shows the number of comments on each step on a week of your course. Hover over a data point (B) to see the exact number of comments on a step. Click on any of the steps below (C) to be taken to that step on the course.
There is a date selector at the top of the page which allows you to specify the date range for which you would like to view data. This will filter the data for the graph, the Comments list and the Influencers. This is particularly useful for On Demand courses, if you would like to review only recent comments.
Interpreting the graph
The intention for the graph is to make it easy at a glance to spot peaks and troughs of activity across a week, to see if these match with your expectations. For example, if a Discussion step doesn’t have many comments on it, you might wish to investigate why and consider ways to stimulate conversation there. Or if an article or video step has a significant number of comments on it, and it didn’t include a discussion prompt, you can investigate why and what people are talking about.
Note that steps which can’t feature comments (such as quizzes, exercises or peer assignments) will always appear on the graph with 0 comments.
The comment feed shows all comments posted during the week, with replies threaded underneath. You are able to pin, reply and like these comments as you can on the step pages. You can filter the comments by step on the right side.
You will be able to see if someone from the Course Team has responded to a comment by the Course Team flag visible next to the top level comment.
There is also a link to the step, if you would like to review the comment in its original context.
This list shows people who we suggest have been most influential on this week of the course. This is based on average number of likes per comment for that person in that week.
You might use this to see which learners are posting comments that are valued by the community, or to see how influential your own course team is being.
We recognise that influence is a difficult thing to measure, so the way we calculate this may change and improve over time.
On the end-of-week step, learners are asked to rate their experience of the course in a low-effort, engaging way with the weekly sentiment survey.
The weekly sentiment survey results are available on the Facilitation dashboard or Stats Dashboard and to download as a CSV file.
