Courses are structured into weeks, activities and steps.
Once you add a week, you will be prompted to give the week a title and a short description.
Once you are in a week, you can add activities in a similar way. Each week should be comprised of several activities, each comprised of a similar number of steps.
You will be prompted to add a title, short description, image and alternative text for screen readers. Ensure your description explains the content that will be covered within the activity, and how it relates to the week as a whole. You may also find this article by the Learning Design team useful: Activities Guide.
Once you have created the activity under which your content will sit, it’s time to add a step. There are many different types of step to choose from. To begin with, click on the activity you have already created then click 'Add a step'. If you would like to add assignment or exercise steps to your course, please contact your Course Development Manager.
A drop-down list will appear where you can choose which type of step to add.
To remove a step, activity or week select the 'X' symbol next to the title of the step, activity or week.
You can import a step from another course belonging to your organisation by selecting import a step on the activity page in Course Creator.
Once you have added some content to your course, a useful way of seeing how your course is constructed is to use the Course Overview. Through this view you can see the full structure of your course as well as navigate through to edit specific steps or weeks. You might find this a faster way of navigating Course Creator once you have some content in your course. It is also a useful way of checking the balance of your course’s content, for example, if one week has significantly more steps than another.
