Before your course goes live, one of our Course Development Managers will Quality Assure its content to ensure that it meets FutureLearn’s internal course criteria requirements.
We suggest changes based on how your course meets our quality criteria. Whilst some changes will be at your discretion, there are certain criteria that must be met before the course can run on the platform.
You can find the full FutureLearn course criteria in this section of the Partner Site. But when planning and designing your course, please pay particular attention to the following criteria which can make a big difference to your course success and its likelihood of passing our internal Quality Assurance:
FutureLearn takes accessibility very seriously, and aims to match the best of the web in this respect. Each step must have alt text for any images it includes and all videos must include subtitles and a pdf transcript. Audio steps also require a pdf transcript.
- Course Objectives and Outcomes
The course must have clear learning outcomes and the course content must attempt to address those.
- Educator visibility
The course must have a clear Educator voice running throughout. It’s helpful to introduce the Lead Educator and team early on but it’s also important to ensure that Educator presence is visible throughout and that the course feels like it’s been created by one person.
- Week length and consistency
Each week of a course should have a relatively consistent number of steps (although we advise the first week of a course is slightly shorter). The minimum number of steps in a week should be 6 and the maximum should be between 20-25 depending on course length.
- Missing Content/broken links
Please ensure that all content and links are up to date and functioning before handing the course in for QA. We also strongly recommend getting a team member to check for spelling and grammatical errors before submitting.
